C-TEC are leading UK manufacturers of life safety electronic equipment. Their main warehouse is situated in Wigan and the company has been running since 1981.
The Green Economy team first became involved with C-TEC towards the end of 2023 after the C-TEC team reached out requesting support with their decarbonisation strategy.
“We’ve supported them in a variety of ways,” says Alasdair Dalzel Job, Technical Lead at Green Economy. “We did a full review of their site to look at how they could improve their environmental performance, looking at their energy consumption.”
After conducting the review, Alasdair pieced together a report outlining recommendations, including a solar PV project.
“At the time [of the report] there was a scare about the cost of energy,” explains Andy Scott, Director of C-TEC. “Worst case estimates where at 85p per unit, so cost saving was a big factor in our decision to go with solar. And the other part was social responsibility; trying to decarbonise the business over time.”
Once C-TEC were ready to go ahead with their solar PV project, the Green Economy team pulled together a list of MCS certified suppliers. After a few consultations, C-TEC decided to partner with Perfect Sense Energy.
“We were introduced to C-TEC by the Green Economy in April 2024, the contract was won and then placed in August 2024,” says Gary Brandwood, Managing Director at Perfect Sense Energy.
“We’ve supported C-TEC by analysing the consumption data from their site and modelling that against various different sizes of solar PV system.”
Perfect Sense installed a 127.7 kWp system on C-TEC’s site. Outlining his advice for seeking out suppliers, Gary says:
“The most important thing is to engage with a company that has the track record, experience, and longevity in the industry to ensure you get the right quality, installation, and design of the system.”
Overall, the solar partnership is expected to generate carbon savings of 21.26 tonnes, and cost savings of almost £34,000 in its first year, paying for itself within three years.
